Community Chess Challenge* Nutshell Info

Community Chess Challenges bring child, youth and adult players together under one roof in a friendly, competitive atmosphere. This is a great opportunity for casual players to try something a little different. And, it's another chance for experienced players to play more chess. There are non-adult sections, and combined sections.

Previous tournament experience is not required; and the rules are explained to everyone before play begins. In addition, the rules are written in a reader-friendly format in the Keepsake Booklet each player receives. The biggest differences between casual play and tournament play are that in a tournament the tournament director decides who will play at each board, and the results will be published. The Community Chess Challenge is a great way to meet other chessplayers.

This 5-round (“tornado”, or “active”) tournament takes place at Ferris Lane Community Church, 49 Ferris Lane, Barrie, on the last Saturday in April.

Entry fee is $20 per person, no matter what your level of play.

Pre-registration is required; your fee must be received a week before the tournament. Check in starts at 10:15 and closes at 11:15.

Players under 12 years of age must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or designated adult.

A food concession is onsite; outside food may not be brought into the building.

This tournament is rated with the Canadian Chess'n Math Association (our national scholastic chess body), and the international Chess Express Ratings service (for their helpful report-card like metrics). Members of the Simcoe County Chess Club are identified by name in the CXR results; non-members are listed by number only.

*Community Chess Challenges were formerly called GrassRoots Chess Challenges.
