About Us

Who We Are
We are a group of people (mostly parents of younger players) who find satisfaction in building this chess club, in bringing something enriching to our community that wasn't there before.

We realized in the beginning that a good chess club doesn't have to be run by chessplayers -- just people who have a common vision and a willingness to make it happen. Good chess advice is critical, however, and we seek it out and surround ourselves with those who can provide it. Recently, some of this assistance has come from our former junior players who have grown to adulthood, and other local adult players. Community support is also essential to our success, and we are happy to partner with sponsors who support our goals and vision. Together, we are all proof that many hands make light work (and make it more fun!).

Our Values
We have seen that chess can bring together people who would not otherwise be able to play/compete with one another, and we see that as a good thing. We value effort, self-improvement, and good fortune -- in that order. Our learning program's rewards system reflects this order of values (trophy for sustained effort in learning, certificate for self-improvement, and a ribbon for a game's outcome). We also value good manners, and stress the etiquette of the game to help individuals in their interactions with others -- in chess and elsewhere.

Our Invitation to You
We welcome everyone willing to share our goals and our vision, and leave behind us a chess community for all.

Our Mission
To establish a vibrant chess community in Simcoe County and meet its needs.
